Hi there...
Most of you know that we are back in Kabul - doing much the same as we were doing here last year! Things are going well. One of the bonuses of living in a place that has tight security and restricted movements is that we are able to exit the country every 3 months for a break - fondly called R&R - rest and relaxtion - and often the thing that becomes your focus when times get tough..."only 4 weeks til R & R" is a common phrase!
Our first one has just been in Turkey... so I thought I'd share some pics with you. It was a great break & The Turks very friendly...enjoy!

Down by the Bosphorus - Istanbul

Colorful Comfy Cafes under the Galata Bridge

The chic & trendy Istaklal Caddesi Street - humming with people

Plastic Fantastic! In the Manican Market!

Tea is common - black or apple - here being served in the Grand Bazaar - a covered market of 4,000+ shops - pics from here below...

Colorful shoes...

And Belly Dancing Outfit to match ...wanted to get Nicole's Mum one of these...but couldn't decide on the colour ..oh well...next time!

Men whitling away the day playing backgammon over tea
After a few days in Istanbul we ferried across the Sea of Mamara and to a beautiful little village called Cumalikizik settled 700 years ago andone of the best remaining examples of Ottoman Architecture ...one of the houses below

Then on to Bodrum on the Agean Sea - a beautiful town with predominantly white buildings, a great harbour, beaches and sunshine!

This is what R&R is all about!

and of course..what to eat ?
From Bodrum we took a 2 day excursion to Ephesus and Pamukkule...

Hard to imagine all that went on here and actually be able to walk in amongst the ruins

The Pamukkule UNESCO World Heritage Pools amongst the ruins of Hieropolis...

Pamukkule means "Cotton Castle" as you can see why
Then back to Istanbul for a brief day or two...exploring some more of the markets and Turkish Delights!

Simit...the daily staple bread

Mmm..cant say we tried it!

More sweets

That thick black ubiquitous brew...

Chicken Kebap...everywhere!

And spices galore.mmm!

If you ever get the chance..a great place to explore. Go Turkey!!
I loved Turkey! We were amazed to see that the sewage system/plumbing in Ephesus way back when Paul walked there and taught there was more advanced than the sewage systems in Kabul! Next time, you'd likely enjoy Gorem as well! Keep blogging about the lovely places you get to see in the world! Good to see pictures of you both again! Stef
