Hi there from Ithaca, N.Y.
We arrived here late Saturday afternoon after a beautiful cycle down the eastern half of Seneca Lake then crossed over to the Western half of Cayuga Lake. As we approached Ithaca it was bathed in golden sunlight, highlighting the beautiful stone buildings of Cornell University on the hillside (an Ivy League Uni). We were warmly welcomed by Janice and her beautiful Old English Sheep dog, Charlie, into their 1870's home just two blocks from everything!! Janice is doing a PhD in Political Science and has the biggest heart and has made us feel so welcome and comfortable we really don't wanna leave!
Yesterday (Sunday) we explored the town, went to the local Farmers Market, rested up a little and took in a movie at night (500 days of Summer - Chic Flick - men avoid!!!. It has turned quite cool so walking home after the movie was pretty chilly!
This morning we greeted our good mate Justin who flew in from London last night and arrived on the Greyhound bus at 10.10 a.m. We have just all (Janice and her friend Cathy too) had lunch together at the "Moosewood Restaurant" which was great to experience and healthy too of course!
Now for some internet research as to where to head the next few weeks. We are excited about exploring various places in the New England States (Massachusets, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island and Cooneticut) before arriving in N.Y City Oct 31. We have been instructed by Janice and Cathy that we MUST wear Halloween costumes that day as we cycle in to N.Y - so watch this space to see what we come up with!!!
The weather has definitely turned to Fall and the colors along with it are beautiful. There are many homes with pumpkins and scarecrows outside, some decorated with spiders webs and/or ghosts etc. It is nice to feel that the seasons are disctinct and celebrated here.
I will put some pictures up now too of the last week or so...enjoy. I hear that adding comments to this blogsite is not easy so please persist or just email us direct! We love hearing from you!
Lotsa love
M & N
